They do have ice cream in Turkey and it's super special!
It's called Dondurma and it is stretchy like taffy. I saw it on a food show once, you can pull it and stretch it just like taffy but it is ice cream and melts more slowly. According to Wikipedia it is made out of milk, sugar, salep, and mastic. Salep is a flour that makes it thicker and the mastic makes it chewy. I've never had it, so I have no idea how it tastes. I worked at the Lee's Summit Baskin Robbins for 4 years and never knew the banana split was called that because people were meant to split it. I thought it was called that because the banana was split down the middle. I do not care for fruit in ice cream, either, so while I made thousands of banana splits for others over the years, I never made one for myself.
BR is still my favorite ice cream, and I like it much more than I like custard.
Did you ever have a clown cone? We sold a TON of those to kids. Upside down sugar cone with the scoop of ice cream decorated with a clown's face. Weird.

This one was pretty great guys. usually i laugh at you two laughing...but i genuinely laughed in a few places. JK. More than a few places. My ice cream contribution: 'Nobody Lay a Finger on My Buttercream.' Finger-shaped gummy pieces and buttercream flavored ice cream, of course.

I remember the day chocolate cookie dough ice cream first graced my lips. It was a tour of the Ben & Jerry factory in Burlington, VT -- then a little-known-outside-of-Vermont purveyor of artisanal ice cream. It was love at first bite and I knew this wasn't just a new flavor, but a new genre of ice cream.

The Ben & Jerry's factory was (is?) a great place. They let you sample and purchase factory "seconds" which typically meant the ice cream base had too much of the particular additive. Too many chocolate covered cherries, for example. Well, on this particular day, not only did I taste my first CCCD ice cream, but I also had a taste of a CCCD factory second in which there were way too many cookie dough globules. Talk about heaven. It was more like ice cream flavored chocolate cookie dough.

Now every company does their own CCCD ice cream and Ben & Jerry sold their empire, so it doesn't seem as special, but it is still just as tasty. Too bad no one intentionally overpopulates their cream with morsels -- I'd be customer numero uno. There have also been other cookie dough attempts... brownie dough, oatmeal raisin cookie dough, etc.

Ben & Jerry invented this genre (as far as I know), and it makes me wonder -- what is the next innovation in cream flavors. Candy additives are tapped as are cookie/brownie doughs. What's next?
